Covered Walkway

Covered Walkway

Laying a walkway yourself can be easy as well as cost effective. If you have a covered walkway then you can go with many options of the material to use as such a walkway is protected from extreme weather conditions. Some options for laying the path that are easy, not expensive and can be done on your own are stated as under:

Mulch and gravel paths
Mulch and gravel are the cheapest materials for laying a path. These materials are easily available in the market and do not require any machinery or manpower to be laid. Gravel or mulch paths always require edging. There are many common types of edging you can use: plastic landscape edging, steel or aluminum edging, brick and stone borders and concrete edging, to name a few.
Mulch: Mulch is a bit cheaper option than gravel or stone pebbles. Bark, wood chips and other types of organic mulch can create soft paths that do not require many resources to haul and spread to be laid. The only drawback with such a path is:

ü  You need to refill new material after every few years to keep it looking fresh and good.
ü  These paths get soggy with moisture so it’s not a good idea to lay them in an area where there is some drainage problem or regular rainfall issues.

Gravel: Gravel forms a path that is more long lasting than a mulch path. Gravel paths are easy to maintain and require weeding occasionally. Smaller stones are best for paths because they pack together in a much better way providing a much comfortable path to walk on.
ü  The main drawback with such a path is that they are a bad choice in areas of heavy snowfall where you have to shovel snow off the path.

Stepping-stone paths: Stepping-stone path is an inexpensive, fast and easy way to build a path. There’s a very little digging involved in it. If you’re lucky enough to live in an area with naturally occurring stone then you can build this path with a very minimal cost. Since there’s a distance between the stones, you don’t have to worry about leveling them with one another. Set the top of the stepping-stones about 1 inch above the soil level. This will give you a dry place to step while still allowing you to run a lawn mower over the path.

Planted Paths: Planted paths serve as one of the easiest and most cost effective way of building a path. Such a path looks natural and best with stones embedded and plantation in between the solid stones. The plantation has to be chosen very carefully as there are only a few plants that can take the pressures of foot traffic. Choose plants that can sustain traffic and can grow in the sunlight and land that is available in that area. Planted paths require maintenance such as:
ü  Watering the new plants on a regular basis.
ü  Pulling weeds and grass.
Keeping low expenditure in mind, shelter provided by Multicover.ie can give you the best solutions for covered walkways.
